The Romans eventually acquired the knowledge of how to make your own soap from the Gauls, by whom this branch of industry was, with their conquests, soon spread over Europe. A similar effect is produced by using a mixture of water and lixivious salts. The gall of animals and the juice of certain plants, also possess the property of removing dust and dirt, It does not, however, appear that gall was employed by the ancients, but it is certain that in washing they used saponaceous plants.

Jack Vettriano was born in Fife, Scotland in 1951 and left school at the age of 16 to become a mining engineer. Vettriano experimented with drawing figures in his teenage years, but was first encouraged to paint when a girlfriend bought him a set of paints at the age of 21. The sleeves begin to pose some problems. See if switching to a plastic or wooden hook – perhaps slightly smaller or slightly bigger – might help. Keep experimenting, you just might hit the jackpot.

Bobbins

Bobbins are small plastic devices that look identical to your bread pins, except they’re larger. They are especially useful when working with many colors. Instead of handling balls of yarn, crochet from the bobbin. Wrap yarn around it before starting and this way you unwind only what you need for the next few stitches.

Always count chains from the front of the chain. You begin counting with the first complete stitch above the slip knot. When working with projects, crochet instructions will indicate how many chains to make and where to start your work on the foundation chain.

Having a snarl? This is probably because you forgot to do your turning chains. The ends of your work will look “squished” because there isn’t any space to allow for rows. To fix the snarl, unwind the yarn back to the end of the preceding row and then making your turning chains. One loop remains on the hook, and you have now completed a slip stitch and made a ring.

For starters, let’s quickly go over why vision correction becomes important again after the young age of forty. It is at that time in life when eyes lose the ability to adjust focus from up distance to up close. This happens to everybody and there is really no way to elude it. The issue is referred to as presbyopia – reading glasses, it is a normal eye condition.

Because presbyopia affects the eyes ability to adjust focus, a single vision correction can easily be utilized with contact lenses, glasses, or refractive surgery. The challenge comes in when a person wants to see clearly in the distance, and then be able to look at an object close up and see them both clearly without changing their contact lenses or putting on another pair of eyeglasses.

On to the hobbies: a popular hobby today is photography. With photography, especially digital photography, a person’s visual demands are great at both distance and near. The most obvious solution is clear distance vision and a pair of always there reader eyeglasses, similar to clic reading glasses that are close by when you need them.

If this setup is not satisfactory to some hobby photographers, a pair of mulitifocal contact lenses fit as a modified monovision is a great solution. This means that the eye used through the viewfinder is wearing a distance correcting contact lens with a small bifocal add power for a slight improvement in reading. The other eye is slightly undercorrected for distance and has a marginally greater reading add. With two eyes vision will be good all around and the hobby photographer will be able to see all the details on the camera as well as the subject in the distance.

Hobby computer users do not have as great near vision demands as they think. The computer screen is usually about 2 feet away from their eyes, and this falls into intermediate distance. Simply wearing normal contact lenses and a pair of low power reading glasses is the most simple solution. However, for those that do not want this type of correction a properly fit pair of multifocal contact lenses will also do the trick.

For hobbies that entail all up close and intermediate vision, the opposite of computer vision correction can be done. Musicians want to see their instruments and the details of the sheet music. The compromise in distance vision is usually acceptable. So under correct the distance slightly and wear a finely fit pair of multifocal contact lenses for good intermediate and near vision.

My first idea is to develop a set of dolls around great TV families. Families that we grew up with, that are a little bit nostalgic but who would also be very recognizable are the types I am referring to. I would start with the Brady Bunch and include the Mom and Dad, Alice and the 6 kids in one set. I think that dolls nesting set could become a top selling line and would serve to honor what is probably the number one family of that generation. The next family to be made into a doll set would be the Partridge family. I would include the business leader, Mr Kincaid, to be sure that there were enough dolls to make a complete set. The Clampett family of Beverly Hillbillies would be next and I would be sure to have a doll made out of the likenesses of Miss Hathaway and the banker to round out the set.

I would then move to the greatest sports teams of all times. I would include a couple sets of Roger Maris and the Yankees, maybe another with the Boston Celtics when they were winning all those championships, and maybe another of Cincinnati’s best team ever the Big Red Machine, since many people in the Midwest would probably love a set and they are my favorite team of all-time.

He wants to be sure that joints fit tightly, dowels are snug and smooth to an open hand and that no corner should be left to have the feel of the cutting blade.

This sister is always trying to make different craft items that she sees in magazines or at craft shows. Last year she was going to make each of us a snowman that was made from tube socks. Originally, the canvas used for paintings came from sail cloth. In modern times sails are madefrom synthetic materials. There are three basic grades available in the market. The three grades are – course, medium and fine. Let’s start with the course grade. The course grade is made from the heaviest yarn and will give the grainy appearance to finish surface. The medium grade will give a slightly grainy appearance and the fine grade with give a smooth finish. The most popular used for paintings especially oils and acrylics is medium grade. Cotton calico cloth can also be used; this yields a very fine weave and the smoothest of all the finishes. This is particularly advantageous if a high gloss is desired.

Because of the absorptive capacity of canvas, proper sealing must be ensured to ensure a good painting surface.This is achieved by applyingat least 2 coasts of primer.

This process not only seals the surface but also tightens the tension of the canvas once the primer is dry. Keep the canvas on a flat horizontal surface when applying the primer to ensure and even coating and allow drying thoroughly between coatings.

Your next step? Apply the primer evenly on the paining surface, the edges and the rear of the stretcher. This bonds the masking tape the canvas edges to the stretcher frame and yields a neat finish.

The completedpainting should have a clean smooth finish. If small lumps show up these are usually due to imperfection in the canvas weave and will not interfere with the final paining. If desired, lumps can be removed with fine sandpaper between primer coats. If you are a new canvas painter, you can try it out too.

The Hornet was the RAF’s piston engined fighter that further exploited the wooden construction techniques pioneered by de Havilland’s classic Mosquito. The Hornet entered service towards the end of World War II and later equipped Fighter Command day fighter units in the UK and was used with success as a strike fighter in Malaya.

The Hornet was designed as a private venture as a long-range fighter for use in the Pacific Theater in the war against Japan. From an early stage it was also envisaged that the Hornet could be adapted for naval use, operating from carriers. As a result priority was given to ease of control, especially at low speeds, and to good pilot visibility.

Early construction of the Hornet was of mixed balsa/ply similar to the earlier de Havilland Mosquito, but the later Hornet differed in incorporating stressed Alclad lower-wing skins bonded to the wooden upper wing structure using the then-new adhesive, Redux. The two wing spars were redesigned to withstand a higher safety factor of 10 versus 8.

Apart from the revised structure the Hornet wings were a synthesis of aerodynamic knowledge that had been gathered since the Mosquito’s design process, being much thinner in cross section, with de Havilland designers adopting a laminar flow profile similar to the P-51 Mustang and Hawker Tempest.

Control surfaces consisted of hydraulically operated split flaps extending from the wing root to outboard of the engine nacelles; like the Mosquito the rear of the nacelles were part of the flap structure. Most of my paper comes in 12×12 blocks perfect for large style scrapbooks. I also have a fair bit of 8.5×11 paper that is your normal letter sized paper. The paper I buy for my scrapping tends to be the 12×12 and it does not fit properly into a standard file cabinet like my letter paper would. When I buy the paper, it’s usually in big paks, all shrink-wrapped up in a bundle. This saves alot of money and I get all sorts of wonderful paper from buying it this way. However, once the shrink-wrap is off, the paper is just loose and really requires a good storage solution.

Organize It!

The first thing I do when I unwrap my paper is organize it. The scrapbook paper tends to often only be imprinted on one side so I make sure all the paper is facing the same direction if it’s imprinted paper. Once I have it all going in the same direction I organize it by color. How many colors you use depends on how much paper you have. If you only have a few hundred sheets then maybe the 3 primary colors will be sufficient. If your like me though, go ahead and make piles for all the colors. I actually now have piles for combinations of colors, such as red/green, as well as a separate pile for straight red and a separate pile for straight green.

Store It!

Now let’s find a good method of storage. One great method is to use the large ziploc freezer bags. These bags are very large square baggies that can hold 12×12 paper. Make sure you get the heaviest ones you can and ones that have the little plastic zipper at the top of them. I once bought the non zipper kind of bags and they kept popping back open when I shuffled stuff around. I ended up just switching them out for the zipper ones.

Another great method for storing your paper is with the rubbermaid or clearview style plastic drawers. These translucent drawers are everywhere nowadays. They are affordable and they are often stackable. The drawers are actually available in 12×12 size and can fit large scrapbook paper perfectly. I have 3 sets of 3 drawers each that are stacked up beside my crafting station. That gives me 9 different drawers full of different colored paper that I can sort through very easily.

For me, to buying stamps means physically going to the post office. I remember a time when you could put money in a special envelope and put it in your mailbox.
