The Road To Findings, Is It A Gain Or A Loss?

As man continues to progress, he continues to invent unseen materials for numerous reasons, and in doing so, he keeps finding modifications for materials used before, therefore continuing his journey of progress. For example, the same nuclear technology used to finish the life of billions in Hiroshima now helps to provide inexpensive electricity to many. Steam engines have provided way to future electric fuel cells. Equestrian helmet covers were first made from simple plastics, now Riding helmet covers are made from Kevlar.

Man has always been inquisitive from the start of his evolution. It is believed that he discovered fire when his questioning mind decided to study burning forests left behind by lightening. He discovered electricity while flying a kite in a thunderstorm, gravitational force when an apple fell down on the earth, ultrasonic waves by seeing the blind bat and discovered much more by just being curious.

The mixture of man’s ability to progress and his usual questioning of his mind gave us the world we reside in today. One curious thought, resulted in another which lead to findings and inventions and therefore progress. Today, we live at the peak of our civilization. Man has become the controller of Earth and literally beyond. In doing so, we have achieved much, but at the same time probably lost even more. Today, the question that all of humanity encounter is: should we keep on with our rampant progress or should we stop for some time and think about our activities and their results?

It is the reality that that technology of just the past decade is old now, take the following examples: floppy drives, a way of data storing completely forgotten nowadays. Typewriters, a machine that is not used as well public phone booths anymore. Pictures do not need to be developed. And as we move on, the technology of today will be forgotten tomorrow. What this will give rise to is a world which we can’t even dream of. Technological marvels that our capable minds cannot even comprehend. Hardly a day passes by when we do not encounter a revolutionary fresh invention that will alter the very norms of our life.

Recently invented fuel, ALICE (a combination of Aluminum and ice) will let us more far and beyond in space. Medical machines made in the recent years have the ability to eradicate health hazards like cancer and target cells affected by the AIDS virus. We now have mobile phones which are equally powerful as computers. Artificial Intelligence and nanotechnology will threaten to which will alter the face of everything that we see in our surroundings. We realize not only our world, but the Universe itself like it has never happened before.

Similarly, we have posed dangers to our planet immensely. More than 70% of the world’s natural rainforests have been deforested. The global CO2 levels are higher than ever before. We will encounter a global shortage of food because the soil is not fertile anymore. The Greenhouse Effect, is affecting the icebergs which is melting and causing the sea level to rise at a tremendous rate. The past 10 years has seen the highest number of natural disasters than any decade ever before. The ozone layer is harmed significantly resulting in harmful radiation to seep in the Earth’s atmosphere which is depleting our natural fuels at an alarming rate and the world encounters poverty unlike ever before. The seas have been unhygienic by our waste materials. There is not one ecological system that has not been affected by human actions. We, the owners of the planet, are killing it.

It is about time that we halt and think of the results of our activities. It is about time that we start taking care of the planet. It is about time that we save our Earth from our own activities. We have the technology and the resources to nurse our planet back to life, we just require the will to actually do so. If we do not take a stand now, we may not have anything left in the forthcoming time. Take away the Earth, and human civilization ceases to exist.
