Career Choices For Gamers: How You Can Make Money While Enjoying Games

So you enjoy playing computer games? Maybe you’re a fanatic gamer and own many consoles. Gaming is on the rise, many people now enjoy games, even whole families can come together and play party games on the Wii. Some people, myself included, play games fanatically. If only there were methods to play games for a living, those 8hrs a day might not be so mind-numbing then. Personally I don’t approve of 8hr working days, it leaves no time for a decent life, whether it’s playing games or a social life, if we could play games for Careers, it may not be so bad then. Truth is, there are actually a few Career Choices out there where you can play for a job, let’s take a look at these hidden positions and find out what they involve.

The first job we will look at is a fairly important one in the games industry. Careers in games testing carry large responsibilities. Game developers need these people to test their games and pick out any bugs. There are some ups and downs to these Career Choices though. The bonus certainly is the fact you’ll be playing games almost none stop and getting paid for it, there’s also more or less no qualifications needed for these positions, as long as you can present written reports for the games and have an eye for detail then recognised qualifications mean nothing. The down sides are though, the fact that obviously you cannot select the games to play and at times you may be playing games you don’t enjoy. There’s also the odds that you’d be hammering the games so much, you may get sick of playing. This one can go either way, but it’s definitely worth a look into.

The second group of Careers to look at is come across quite frequently in gaming, but perhaps goes overlooked. New Careers as a critic for magazines or websites can be quite an interesting role. You would be playing games and then passing judgement on them, giving your opinion about what is good and what is bad. Unquestionably these Careers necessitate good writing skills and you’d probably be writing articles and reviews more than you would play games. That’s not to say it’s a bad choice of career however, in fact it is a great role to take on and you’d frequently get to see new games before they’re released to the public.

The final Career Choices we will be looking at are the games masters. Games masters or GMs are people who play massive multiplayer online games and basically police the worlds. These games are so large and there are thousands, sometimes millions of people play that there has to be unique jobs open to people to help players with any problems they encounter and report any bugs located in the game. New Careers as a GM can be somewhat difficult to achieve. Not only will you have to work changing shifts, but the requirements are a lot tougher than the other positions discussed. Often you will need to be fluent in two languages as the games are played around the world, so it’s more efficient to have bilingual staff.

So that brings us to an end, our three central Career Choices for gamers to make their choice from. Have a careful look at them to decide which you’d prefer, they all provide reasonable salaries and more to the point, let you play games. Happy gaming!
