This can mean hiring a sitter and treating yourself to say a movie and dinner out, or participating in another favorite activity on your own. This demonstrates to your son or daughter that you are not only their parent, but a an individual with your needs and interests. And it gives them an opportunity to show you how well they can cope when you are not there for a while.

Let your son or daughter see you interact in a positive and healthy manner with one another, and show affection and love for one another so your son or daughter may begin to learn from an early age what a healthy relationship should be like.
