Great Baby Trivia

Sure you know that most of a baby’s day involves sleeping eating and bowel relief. Have you learned why babies’ bodies move the way they move? Have you figured out the secret to infant development? So many people do not understand the little things about why a baby grows the way it does. For others though, the subject of infant and early childhood development is something that they make the time to learn about.

Babies are always changing and surprising you! Only half of the things you have learned about babies is correct. Here are some interesting facts about infant development.

Did you know that babies are born with three hundred bones in their bodies? There are only two hundred and six bones in an adult’s body. This makes it sound like the bones disappear but the truth is that many of the bones that are separate at birth fuse together into larger bones as children grow up. Many adults believe that it is the fusing of the bones that causes them to lose their flexibility-they believe that the individual bones gave them better ranges of motions. If you stop to think about it, it does make some sense: when was the last time you could put your feet in your mouth? You’re already aware that a fetus can hear sounds while he is still in his mother’s womb. Studies have been done proving that sounds carry through to the womb and that babies can have strong reactions to different sounds. It does not matter when the baby is born, his ears are still very sensitive to high decibel levels of sound while he is in the womb. Those are impressionable ears even before the birthing process! If something is louder than your vacuum cleaner you should turn it down-doctors agree that the vacuum cleaner’s noise is the cutoff level for comfort and a newborn’s ears. The goal is to keep the noise down as much as possible but loud enough that you can still hear it; avoiding construction areas and places with heavy traffic sounds when you leave the house is also a good idea.

A baby learns how to communicate physically before he or she learns to communicate verbally. This is why so many parents teach their children sign language when they are babies. Signs like food, drink, wet, dirty, tired, etc are taught to babies who then have an easier time getting what they need from their parents. Kids who are taught how to communicate through physical means like the “baby signs” program grow up to be better overall communicators than kids who were simply taught how to talk.

There are so many things about babies that are not well known-you will never get bored learning about child development. You already know how fast babies grow up. Do you know exactly how development occurs? Has anybody told you just how many changes occur between when your baby is conceived and when he or she has a baby of his or her own? There is no end to the number of interesting facts you can learn about babies-this article is a good example of that!
