A Guide To The History Of Berlin

It was inaugurated in May 2005. It is a representative monument of the Holocaust in Germany and is situated in central Berlin, between the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamerplatz, near where the Chancellery of the Third Reich was and the Bunker where Adolf Hitler killed himself.

The monument is based on 2,711 blocks distributed in a big esplanade (19,073m). Those blocks are made in different sizes, which form a big maze. People can have free access to them and they can make of it whatever they want. It is normal to see many people walking and eating in their free time or during their lunch break from work. This is the finality of the architect, Peter Eisenman.

Peter Eisnman was the person in charge of the Project. It was this man who has the idea to create a park in memoriam of the Holocaust victims. At the beginning, people do not agree with that, because people said that the monument reminded a cemetery. However, Eisnman explained that he wanted to reflect the same anguish and confusion that the prisoners felt in the Nazis’ concentration camp.

In my personal opinion, I would consider this a “must-do” visit because it represents the cruel past successes where millions of innocent people died. It is incredible the sensation which you can feel walking among the blocks of more than 8 tones. Tourists who visit it feel affected for the monument and they confirm that Eisenman’s intention is transmitted. The monument remains open all day long and it is kept an eye on 24 hours per day to see what people are getting up to there.

Finally, I want to recommend that tour to the Holocaust made in honor to the victims of Nazism. If you want to visit this fantastic monument, stay nearby at an alojamiento en berlin or even apartamentos berlin.
