Parisians, get your running shoes on!!!

This Sunday sees the 33rd annual Paris Marathon take place. While registration for the race has long closed (18th Nov 2008), you can still get yourself up early in the morning in your apartments in paris and the follow some of the 37,000 participants through the city.

The route will allow you to see some of the iconic landmarks of Paris. Although it is doubtful that with just over 42km to run that many or any of the competitors will be in a state of mind to enjoy the scenery! It starts at the l’Arc de Triomph and on its long and winding path passes the globally known Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Notre Dame cathedral. In addition to that, the entrants will run along the banks of the River Seine, famous for its enduring ability to provide romantic strolls to couples the world over.

Of course not many people are that interested in just watching a bunch of random strangers run their hearts out. That is why entertainment is provided along the route of the marathon. Usually around a quarter of a million people turn out for the event and they are kept happy in several different ways. You will find around 70 music stages playing a plethora of different styles of music.

While non-competitors will miss out on the ‘pasta party’ held on the Saturday before the race for the runners, there are still other gastronomic options on offer. One of the more popular of things to do on the day is found at the 35th kilometre. Here red wine and cheese are served!!

For two and a half days around the time of the marathon the Porte de Versailles puts on a free exhibition and fair demonstrating all sorts of sports equipment and sportswear.

The race is this Sunday 5th April, so if you don’t want to miss out on this great opportunity then book your apartments paris now!
