A free meal in Paris
Imagine this: you are renting Paris apartments for a couple of days and one day you do not feel like cooking your own meal at all. Since everybody needs to eat the you have to choose to either go out for diner or order something from the local italian/chinese/greek. Since the first option usually comes with better food you decide to call a friend, dress up, fix your hair and finally walk out the door, ready for a good night out. The first stop is the ATM to get some money but, oh no! Your account has been blocked and you left the other card in the Paris apartment rental!
It´s Friday night, you are all dressed up and all you have left is 15 euro in your wallet, what do you do now? You could of course still buy a piece of bread and go home, feeling all sad about this wasted time or you could go to one of the following free restaurants! These restaurants serve free food when you order a drink on specific times and certain days of the week and they are very popular with the Parisians. Chances are slim that you will get the best quality food ever but for a cheap night out while mixing with real Parisians this is the perfect option!
Some of the restaurants:
- La Chope du Château Rouge : 40 Rue de Clignancourt
This classical looking neighbourhood bar offers couscous, their specialty, every Friday and Saturday night in combination with a consumption. The bar has a good reputation and the best thing, drinks are cheap as well!
- Le Taïs : 129 boulevard de Ménilmontant
Get to Le Taïs on time as you will not be the only one who wants to enjoy the delicious free couscous with lamb. A mix of chic, young Parisians, Arab-Parisians and many others will fill up the space from 8.30 pm. The food is served after 9 pm.
- Le Tribal Café : 3 cour des Petites Ecuries
In the mood for something else then couscous? This cafe offers free mussels with fries after 9 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Fridays and Saturdays are couscous nights. Many students go to this place to eat and drink and stay till late for a chat or a bit of dancing on the Arab music.
- Le Grenier : 152 rue Oberkampf
9 pm too late for you? Or do you prefer the combination of your free food with some live pop or jazz on the background? This is another one that is popular with the students. Free couscous is served on Saturday evening from 7 pm.
