Job Hunting Tools - Salary Comparison

You have decided to find out what your job is actually worth. That is not a bad thing and it does not make you greedy. It is just a way to research careers to see what other employers are paying people for the same job title and duties. Salary comparison is an excellent tool that can be used in your favor should you seek a raise. It also allows you to know how valuable your experience is and whether or not your company values your contributions.

There are wonderful tools to use when you are seeking employment. The first is having an effective resume. The second is knowing your salary history and not over inflating the numbers just because your salary comparison search showed that other people were being paid more. Falsifying information is a huge blunder and it can cost you that job later down the road. It is not worth risking your employment.

Great employers know that their employees will do a little shopping around if they are unhappy. Most will want to keep their employees happy because employee turnover can lead to great losses. By doing a bit of research on their own, employers know a good median salary to pay their staff. When it comes time to give a raise, they know where to start from and how much to offer.

You took a class to become a good resume writer, followed the correct cover letter and resume format, got an interview and landed the job. However, the salary offer was lower than what you expected. How can you be sure you are worth what you are asking when it comes to a salary? Are you being offered enough for what you will do and your experience level? There is no shame in doing a bit of salary comparison. It gives you a starting point from which to prepare your argument when it comes time for negotiations.
